7 signs your business admin is getting out of control
When you run your own business, there is always something that needs doing. But there is a difference between being busy and letting your business admin get out of control. Often, it happens gradually. A few emails are left unanswered, an invoice gets forgotten, and suddenly your evenings are swallowed up by jobs you meant to finish during the day ... Is your business admin getting out of control? If you're working every evening then something needs to change! Your inbox is often one of the first places it shows. Important messages become buried beneath newsletters and notifications, enquiries wait too long for a response, and you find yourself constantly marking emails as unread because you haven't got time to deal with them properly. Late invoices are another warning sign!Sending invoices, checking payments, and following up on overdue accounts may not directly make you money, but neglecting them can certainly hurt your cash flow. If you're often thinking, "I'm sure I meant to invoice someone", your admin needs some attention. Then there are the forgotten follow-ups. You have a great conversation with a potential client, promise to send them some information, and remember three days later while making a cup of tea. Those little missed opportunities can add up, particularly when you're trying to grow your business. Messy files can cause similar frustration.If finding a document means searching downloads, emails, desktop folders, and several creatively named versions of the same file, you're wasting time. A good filing system isn't glamorous, but neither is spending twenty minutes looking for Proposal-FINAL-FINAL2.docx. Another sign is constantly moving unfinished admin from one day's to-do list to the next. When routine tasks never reach the top of your priorities, the backlog keeps growing.
